Crystal Mower - a slightly crazy kind of lawn mower

These "Crystal Engines" will be on show in Innsbruck for six months. At the heart of the exhibition are unusual and extravagant crystalline-finishes, all on public show for the first time. Among them is a VIKING 6 Series lawn mower, model MB 650 T with a ReadyStart engine - fully operational, of course. It is joined by an espresso machine, a bicycle and even a grand piano - played by Sir Elton John. All these products are fully functional. Yet they exude a certain mystique for their users that makes them extraordinary. It is quite unusual to associate crystals with machines. Crystals are aesthetically appealing objects that are more likely to be linked with magic or myths than with machinery. Crystals - as in this exhibition - ennoble objects that seem to be nothing special in everyday life. Swarovski, a family-run business based in Wattens in the Austrian Tyrol, has been the global leader in the manufacture of cut crystal for more than a hundred years. Its design capabilities are evident in Daniel Swarovski Paris and Swarovski Jewellery, the company's accessory and jewellery ranges.
