| Caring for your lawn mower during the winter |
 |
What sort of condition is your lawn mower actually in during the winter? There are several points to observe with regard to storage during the colder time of year, so that the appliance is in same top form in the spring, as it was when used last in autumn.
|
No residual fuel
The tank should be emptied before the winter break. Reason: Residual fuel loses its combustibility during the winter. If it remains in the tank, it can cause starting problems in the spring. If there is remaining fuel after the last mowing operation, it is recommended to run the lawn mower in neutral until the engine stops of its own accord.
Check the oil level
The oil level must also be correct before the winter break. Because the appliance should always be in a proper operating condition. It may be necessary to perform an oil change or to obtain support from a VIKING specialist dealer for this purpose. Furthermore, it is important to follow the instruction manual and to use the recommended brand-name oil.

|
Clean thoroughly
The appliance must be thoroughly cleaned, especially after the last mowing operation. Grass residues which remain stuck to the housing, can be removed using a wooden or plastic spatula. In addition, grass residues must be removed from cooling ribs and from the area of the exhaust as otherwise, there is a risk of fire. The lawn mower should be cleaned using a brush and water. Cleaning with a garden hose is also helpful.
|
Caution: The water jet directed at bearings, seals or engine components must not be too powerful, as this may damage the appliance. In order to clean dirt from the underside of the housing, the lawn mower should be tilted backwards so that the spark plug points upwards. If the appliance is tilted to the side, oil may enter the air filter or the exhaust - there is a danger of severe damage.
Last check
Before the first operation in spring, the mowing blade must be intact. If cracks and notches are visible, it must be replaced immediately by a VIKING specialist dealer. Otherwise, it is recommended to remove and sharpen the blade or to have it sharpened and balanced by a technician. It is also recommended that this procedure is always performed after approx. 25 working hours, so that optimal mowing performance can be achieved.

Correct storage place
When all maintenance work is completed, the lawn mower must be adequately covered and stored in a dust-free, dry room. The storage position is the normal position.
|
| Warning: It is essential that lawn mowers with starter batteries are stored under frost-free conditions. And even if the appliance is temporarily out of operation, it must at no time be accessible to children. |
